What do Stumpbusters do exactly?
StumpBusters are the specialists in tree stump removal and they remove stumps using the most up to date machine called a stump grinder. This machine literally grinds the stump into chippings. This method is the most efficient method of destroying the stump leaving the area ready for the next stage of garden design, replanting or building that extension.
What happens to the chippings that are left?
StumpBusters reduce the stump to chippings that are mixed up with the soil in which the stump was standing. This resulting 'mulch' is left for the customer to utilise on the spot or to be used as a mulch elsewhere in theirs or a neighbours garden. (see mulching)
How much does it cost?
StumpBusters do not charge for travelling or for meal breaks but costs are based upon the size and number of stumps to be removed. When asking for a quotation it would be useful to have some idea of the number of stumps and a rough idea of how wide they are and how tall the stump is. This information will enable StumpBusters to give you an accurate, 'no obligation' quotation on the phone.
How soon can you come?
StumpBusters have a busy work schedule but urgent work can usually be booked in within the next two weeks. If you only have a small stump then StumpBusters may ask you to wait a little longer until another job is being done in your area, this reduces the costs for everyone.
Do I need to be at home?
StumpBusters only ever meet about half of their customers. Their reputation is such that customers are happy for them to carry out the work in their absence knowing that the work will be done efficiently with the minimum amount of ground disturbance and the area being left tidy. An invoice can be left on the day or sent by email or post later on.
Do Stumpbusters do other tree work?
StumpBusters are dedicated to the efficient removal of tree stumps and do not get directly involved in any other aspect of tree work or garden maintenance. Because of their reputation StumpBusters are often asked to carry out other work, but this is referred to their network of tree surgeons and contractors with whom they have a close working arrangement and whom they can recommend.
Will the tree re-grow?
Usually any stump that StumpBusters undertake to destroy is completely ground away and will not regrow. There are one or two exceptions that may send up the odd shoot from a piece of root but even these can easily be managed with advice from StumpBusters. In either case the area can be utilised for that favourite project. You are left with a valuable soil mixed with wood chippings. The ground can then be replanted immediately, turfed or the mix can be used as an excellent alternative to other forms of weed inhibiting mulch.
What about Honey Fungus?
Honey Fungus (Armillaria mellea) is often referred to as the gardeners nightmare. More about Honey Fungus.
I have a stump that is right up against a wall?
If this is the case then StumpBusters have the answer. The versatile machinery used is ideal for inching right upto a wall, patio or other object that you do not want to have damaged in any way. StumpBusters can usually take out all signs of a stump literally to within millimetres of any structure without causing damage.
How much mess will be left?
StumpBusters pride ourselves in providing a service that leaves the customer completely happy with the work carried out. This includes leaving the area tidy after the operation is complete. StumpBusters use tarpaulins and other shields to prevent the chippings going where they are not wanted.
My stump is in the back garden....?
StumpBusters use very versatile equipment, which is motorised, and self-propelled. At only 35 inches wide it easily gains access to even most small back gardens. The compact nature does not limit its use to domestic situations, as contract work is regularly undertaken for commercial operators including tree surgeons, landscapers, builders, Local Government, Estate Managers and utility contractors.
